Mary Norwood retains lead in Atlanta mayoral race, poll finds

ATLANTA (defeo.biz) — City Councilwoman Mary Norwood remains atop a crowded field of candidates running for mayor, according to a new poll.

According to the poll from WXIA-TV and SurveryUSA, 27 percent of potential voters said they favored Norwood. City Council President Ceasar Mitchell came in second with 10 percent of the vote.

One in five voters (20 percent) said they are undecided. Other candidates running include City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms; City Councilman Kwanza Hall; state Rep. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta; former Atlanta COO Peter Aman; City Councilwoman Cathy Woolard; and Fulton County Commission Chairman John Eaves.

The election will be held on Nov. 7, and an almost certain runoff follows on Dec. 5. The winner replaces Mayor Kasim Reed.

Reed in December 2009 edged out Norwood in runoff following a hotly contested race. Norwood was elected to her current at-large post in 2014.

The poll garnered the opinions of 1,085 Atlanta residents surveyed between July 11-18. Norwood also topped an earlier poll WSB-TV conducted.
