(defeo.biz) — New security at airports nationwide is practically guaranteed following terrorist attacks in Belgium, France and Turkey.

“This challenging threat environment frames all of TSA’s operations,” TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger testified on June 7. “We must address issues such as increased passenger volume, and ensure efficient screening of travelers, while maintaining focus for effective security.”

While the precise changes in airport security remain to be seen, they will surely be expensive. The changes are also likely to affect the flow of travelers through the airport, and there is no guarantee of success.

At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, for example, security may soon extend to the passenger pickup and drop off area outside the terminal, according to one report.

“We’re going to have more presence on the curbside,” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Roosevelt Council, the interim general manager of the airport, as saying.

“People are going to be late for their flights and miss their flights,” CBS 11 in Dallas/Fort Worth quoted aviation security expert Denny Kelly as saying. “Even then it’s not gonna work because if someone is willing to give up their life, you’re not gonna stop them by putting a mirror under their car.”
