Well this doesn’t bode well for DeKalb County.
DeKalb County “is rotten to the core,” special investigators probing various malfeasance in the County say in a letter to Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May, The Atlanta Constitution reported.
“The misconduct starts at the top and has infected nearly every department we have looked at,” the newspaper quoted investigators Mike Bowers, a former Georgia attorney general, and Richard Hyde as writing in a letter. “Expenses range from the petty to the absurd.”
The county’s issues are well documented. Some of the recent negative headlines include:
- Suspended DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he was convicted of criminal attempt to commit theft by extortion and three counts of perjury, WXIA-TV reported.
- Former DeKalb County Commissioner Elaine Boyer was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $87,350 in restitution after pleading guilty in September 2014 to wire fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, WSB-TV reported.
