WATKINSVILLE — Voters in District 113 will return to the polls Tuesday to elect a new state representative.
The new General Assembly member will replace Hank Huckaby, R-Watkinsville, who stepped down to become chancellor of the University System of Georgia. The July 19 election is non-partisan, but features a Republican and a Democrat in a district that leans right.
Following the June 21 election, Republican Chuck Williams and Democrat Dan Matthews, both of Watkinsville, emerged as the top vote getters in a crowded four-way field. However, neither candidate garnered the 50 percent needed to avoid a runoff.
On June 21, Williams earned 38.8 percent of the vote to Matthews’ 26.7 percent. Sarah Bell picked up 18.3 percent of the vote while Alan Alexander earned 16.1 percent to round out the field.
The district includes all or parts of Clark, Morgan, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties.
