Chambliss Co-Sponsors Legislation to Provide More Transparency in the Legislative Process

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., last week co-sponsored legislation calling for a change in Senate rules to require a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score on all legislative matters.

The bill also calls for the text of legislation to be posted on the Internet 72 hours prior to consideration by any Senate subcommittee or committee, or on the floor of the Senate.

“Americans deserve to know how Congress plans to spend taxpayer dollars,” Chambliss said in a news release. “All too often, measures are rushed through the legislative process without providing the public, and members of Congress, the opportunity to read legislation. I’ve heard from many, many Georgians who are angry at the way Congress conducts business. This legislation will provide the opportunity to insert transparency into the process.”

Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., introduced the legislation.
