ATLANTA — People are always looking for the next big deal when it comes to booking travel. There’s nothing wrong with that.

To that end, many travelers want to know the best time and day for purchasing airline tickets. That’s because people think there is some magical day where airline tickets are guaranteed to be cheaper.

So, is there a best day to buy plane tickets? The answer is there is kinda, sorta a day, but not really.Tuesday has traditionally been identified as the best day to find cheap fares. At the same time, those experts have warned against buying tickets on weekends.

Tuesday has traditionally been identified as the best day to find cheap fares. At the same time, those experts have warned against buying tickets on weekends.

But, most experts say, that is not necessarily the case anymore.

If forced to pick a couple days, Tuesdays and Sundays are probably your best bet for a cheaper fare. But, keep in mind, there is no guarantee.

That’s because there are a lot of variables that go into ticket pricing. Chief among them is demand for seats.

Many experts agree about three weeks out is the ideal time to purchase a ticket. But, it is sometimes difficult to buy a ticket a few weeks before traveling.

While there is no guaranteed day that fares will be cheapest, here are a few pieces of advice to keep in mind when researching and buying tickets:

  • Check early and often
  • Research on multiple sites, including the airline’s portal and third-party sites
  • Be flexible on travel dates
  • If you have the luxury, consider alternate airports if they are convenient (such as Love Field in addition to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport)

With that out of the way, it’s time to enjoy the trip! But, that’s another story for another day.
